About Thomas Ruud

Thomas Ruud, tenor, was born in Oslo, Norway, and started singing already at the age of six in a boys' choir. He is educated from the Academy of Operatic Art in Oslo, and from the University of the Pacific in California, USA.

In 1994, he made his debut at the Norwegian National Opera as Count Almaviva in ‘The Barber of Seville’, and this performance was broadcasted on television by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Since then, he has sung Almaviva in more than 150 performances.

Thomas has been engaged at some of the most important opera houses in Germany, such as the Staatsoper Stuttgart, and the Staatsoper Hannover. Currently, he lives in Norway, and freelances as a soloist throughout the world, including the USA, Mexico and New Zealand.

Thomas is also making his debut with Singapore Lyrics Opera, for his operatic role of Radamés in Verdi’s AIDA, the Egyptian General entangled between Aida and the Egyptian King’s daughter, Amneris. Catch Verdi’s AIDA on 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6 June at Esplanade Theatre!
